Martha Apple Leaf Fender, b. 1950 "(My main influences were] Maria and Desideria,
I remember I grew up with her [Desideria] and later I worked with
Carlos. I learned how to really make them (pottery] from him. He would
help make them for us and then he would smash them down and get us
to make them ourselves. I enjoy the black and also do green on red,
it's different - but I haven't worked on those lately It was supposed
to be white like Uncle Albert [Vigil] but it cooled to green. I got
the color from Uncle Tse-Pe. I like working with it- it's something
new. Erik (Fender] learned from my mom and I and now he does most
of the painting for me - so much easier." |
